It is therefore critical to take them into account to improve both primary prevention and the treatment of acute and chronic illness. The report highlights social work’s valuable contributions as specialists in providing social care and promoting health equity.

Climate change is affecting the way people live and contributing to physical and mental health conditions. Social workers can integrate knowledge about the environment into practice to help individuals understand and manage the health consequences of climate change.

In December 2018, a judgement was issued in a case regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and determined the ACA to be invalid. This ruling threatens health insurance access and consumer protections for millions of people. It is expected that the decision will be challenged and the ACA remains in effect as the case moves through the courts.

Open enrollment for health insurance coverage in 2019 begins on November 1st 2018 and goes through December 15th 2018 on the Health Insurance Marketplace.
