The American Medical Association Physician Consortium (AMA/PCPI) for Performance Improvements has released for public comment the Substance Use Disorders Measurement Set. These measures were developed by an expert work group that included a multidisciplinary group of professionals from social work, psychiatry, addiction medicine, primary care, government, health plans, pain medicine, and substance use counseling communities.

Under the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, (P. L. 109–432, December 20, 2006) the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) established the 2007 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, known as PQRI. This program creates a financial incentive for clinical social workers and other health care professionals to participate in an optional quality reporting program.
