Social Work Salaries
Social work salaries have a high variability. Social work salaries vary depending upon a number of factors, including geographic location, highest social work degree and gender. The NASW Center for Workforce Studies partnered with the Center for Health Workforce Studies, University of Albany to conduct this benchmark national study of 10,000 license social workers.

Social Work Licensure
A social work degree and license are evidence that a social worker has met the basic standards for social work practice in a particular state. Licensing requirements vary from jurisdiction. Visit the state regulatory board directly or the Association of Social Work Boards, for a list of social work state licensing agencies and a comparison of state regulations.
NASW Credentials and Certifications
NASW professional credentials are viewed as “license plus.” NASW credentials indicate that a social worker has met national standards of social work practice and exemplified a high level of competence.
The NASW Credentialing Center provides a verification service for NASW members who hold our credentials and specialty certifications at a minimal charge. For information, contact the Credentialing Center at 202.408.8600 ext. 447.
