National Awards Committee Charge

Authorization and Accountability

The Awards Committee is authorized by and accountable to the NASW Board of Directors to select and recommend recipients of the Emerging Social Work Leader, Social Worker of The Year, Public Citizen of The Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Public Elected Official of The Year Awards.

Purpose

The Committee is responsible for selecting the five national awards - Emerging Social Work Leader, Social Worker of The Year, Public Citizen of The Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Public Elected Official of The Year.

Time Frame

The Awards Committee is a board-established committee.

Members, Terms and Criteria

The Awards Committee consists of five members who are appointed by the President and serve as members of the Board of Directors. Committee members will serve two-year terms.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Review and select award recipients from the nominations submitted based on criteria for consideration and eligibility.
  2. Submit the recommendations for award recipients to the Board of Directors for approval.
  3. Announce the recipients via NASW News, website and other mediums.

National Awards

NASW recognizes social work contributions in five national award categories:

  • Emerging Social Work Leader
  • Social Worker of The Year
  • Lifetime Achievement 
  • Public Citizen of The Year
  • Public Elected Official of The Year
