For Social Work Month 2025, the NASW Foundation and sponsored a short documentary and short video reel contest, asking social workers to make films that reflected the theme “Compassion + Action.”

The contest was the idea of Tab Ballis, an NASW North Carolina member and documentary filmmaker whose film, “Park View,” was an entry at the NASW national conference film festival last June. Ballis was a judge in the contest, along with social worker and filmmaker Geri Lynn Matthews and her husband Matthew (who is also a filmmaker), and Jocelyn Scott, another social worker and filmmaker whose documentary “21 and Done” was shown at a previous national conference film fest.
