NASW attended the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) first-ever Sickle Cell Disease Summit in recognition of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to raise awareness and enhance care for individuals affected by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The all-day summit, themed “Empowered and Thriving SCD Warriors and Communities,” hosted individuals living with SCD (a.k.a. warriors), families, advocates, and health care professionals and highlighted advancements in treatment and support. Among the speakers was U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, Ill.-7, who has been an SCD champion for more than 50 years.
