NASW Press Launches CEU Program

By Paul Pace

NASW Press has teamed up with the NASW Professional Education and Product Development group to offer a new opportunity to earn continuing education units (CEUs).

Discussions kicked into high gear when COVID-19 hit and many of the in-person trainings that social workers relied on for earning CEUs were canceled, said Rachel Meyers, NASW Press acquisitions editor.

“The need for remote CEUs was sudden and great, so we made launching the program a top priority,” she said. For anyone seeking accreditation, NASW Press books are a great way to earn CEUs quickly, cost-efficiently, and in the comfort of their own home.

"[Earning] CEUs with NASW Press books is a great way to further your knowledge about the subjects you care about and earn the credits you need,” Meyers said.

The accredited titles include some customer favorites:

Some niche titles also are available for CEUs, such as:

Both NASW members and non-members are eligible for the program. But NASW members can receive a a 10 percent discount when they buy print copies of accredited titles on the NASW Press website. Also, the accreditation fees are lower for members: $27 per title for members, $35 per title for non-members.

To get started, applicants must purchase the title in either print or electronic format. Next, they must visit the Social Work Online CE Institute and pay the CEU fees. Applicants will then be able to access a multiple-choice test, generally between 25 and 60 questions, which must be completed with at least 80 percent correct answers.

Once the test is complete, the system automatically awards the CE certificate. As of February 2022, there are 12 NASW Press titles available for CEUs, but more are coming, Meyers said.

“We are adding titles every month, including both new and backlist titles,” she said. “Authors have been extremely responsive to the program, eager to accredit their titles with us. Folks who are interested in earning CEUs should check back often for additions.”

NASW has titles accredited for 3.5 CEUs, all the way up to 13 CEUs for “Ethical Standards in Social Work: A Review of the NASW Code of Ethics, 3rd Edition.” The average is about 8.0 CEUs.
