The New York Community Trust Robert and Ellen Popper Scholarship Fund dispenses grant
The NASW Foundation received a $25,000 grant in December 2013 from the New York Community Trust Robert and Ellen Popper Scholarship Fund to expand the existing scholarship/fellowship programs and provide professional mentorship and leadership development opportunities for the award recipients in the 2014-2015 academic year.
The NASW Foundation has a long and proud history of providing fellowships and scholarships to worthy and deserving social work students for more than 25 years. With support from the New York Community Trust, the Foundation will offer recipients enhanced leadership development opportunities which include: increasing the amount and number of awards available; establishing a mentoring connection to provide guidance on professional development opportunities; professional networks, career choices and research strategies; and supporting and financing opportunities to attend and present at national conferences.
The NASW Foundation is grateful to the New York Community Trust for this generous grant. Specifically, the grant will be used for the Eileen Blackey Doctoral Fellowship in welfare policy and Verne Lyons masters level scholarships in health/mental health practice in African American communities.
Since 1924, The New York Community Trust has supported an array of effective nonprofit organizations. The New York Community Trust distributes grants to a variety of organizations which do vital work in increasing the well-being of community life, from urban farms to international internships. Social work fellowships and scholarships are part of the wide range of grantees.
