NASW has updated two of its websites that allow members to blog and exchange information.
Social Work Pulse
SocialWorkPulse.org gives social workers an opportunity to share their perspectives and experiences of being in the social work field. Submissions are currently being accepted for the blog, which allows social workers to write about anything social work, including trends, news and day-to-day experiences.
According to NASW’s Digital Media and Community Manager Ebony Jackson, this is an open way to provide a NASW resource that includes voices in various social work career stages — from seasoned professionals to students and professors.
“We want to hear the voices of members,” Jackson said. “This blog offers a way to get the pulse of what social workers are thinking about, and what matters to them.”
Because social workers come from a variety of backgrounds, the information on the blog can provide an opportunity to bridge gaps, she said.
“An article on the blog written by a social worker in one practice area could be important to a social worker in another area, as they will see a perspective from someone who is in the same field, but work in a completely different setting,” Jackson said. “A synergy can develop with other social work groups as information on the blog is from many different sources and found all in one place.”
Members interested in posting on the blog can send submissions for consideration to swpulse@naswdc.org. Article submissions should provide comprehensive information in a succinct manner and be composed in a professional writing style.
Help Starts Here
NASW’s consumer website, HelpStartsHere.org, has undergone a face-lift, and visitors to the site will experience a new look and feel, as well as more user-friendly navigational services. Content on the site has been revamped to enhance visual appeal and improve search results.

It is designed for the public consumer, offering social work tips and resources for anyone who is looking for information to help them cope with daily struggles.
The site provides resources in a wide range of areas, including health care, aging, veterans, children in schools, HIV/AIDS, and grief and loss It includes several Spanish language articles to reach a wider audience.
The site also provides links to free national directories of licensed social workers. Content for the site is written, approved and reviewed by social work experts. Those interested in submitting an article, writing content or registering in the Social Worker Finder can visit the site for more information.
