Board's Action

Context

Finance

Received the financial reports for the period ending Aug. 31, 2010.

As of Aug. 31, 2010, NASW’s total asset position was $13.4 million. Overall, assets decreased by $1.6 million compared to the same time last year. For the two months ending Aug. 31, total revenue increased by $27,000 versus 2009 to $3.2 million. Dues revenue for the two-month period was down $28,000 versus 2009 to $1.7 million.

Governance

Accepted the Washington state and Oregon chapters’ proposal on the Regional Alliance model.

The Regional Alliance model will allow for two or more chapters to merge and become one chapter with one board, but with presence in both states. The Council of Chapter Executive Directors has been supportive of the concept. The Board acknowledged that several factors challenge NASW to stay current within a rapidly changing environment, and encouraged chapters to be part of the creative thinking process.

Accepted the Delegate Assembly Planning Task Force’s recommendations for the 2011 Delegate Assembly.

The task force reviewed the processes for the automatically referred policies, program priority goals and the emerging issues forum. It was recommended by the Task Force that the process for the review of policies be conducted at least annually to ensure that policies are kept more current and that the process includes non-delegate experts in specific content areas. A proposed policy, Social Worker Safety in the Workplace, was rejected because of incomplete citation and lack of background material.

Confirmed the appointment of Barbara Conniff to fill the Region IV Representative position.

Position was left vacant by the resignation of Allison Blake.

Notes: An action by the board to "receive" a report does not imply approval of the report in its entirety. Specifically, recommendations for board action included in a report are not adopted unless the board takes specific action to approve them. This list may not necessarily contain all actions the board took and actions that are reported elsewhere in the News.
