From parks to grocery stores, many places of safety and sanctuary have become crime scenes and news headlines. Events of mass violence may cause a range of emotional, mental, and physical responses in people who are survivors or directly exposed to them and in those who are more remotely affected. The seemingly unending experience of witnessing these incidents has an impact on our communities that is massive and far-reaching. As social workers, we play a critical role in the lives of the students, families, and clients we serve each day as they navigate exposure to and experiences with mass violence.Join NASW North Carolina & South Carolina Chapters as we examine trauma responses in children and adults after mass violence, explore the impact of violence on Communities of Color, dive into lessons learned from school shootings, and develop our resilience as we navigate the epidemic of gun violence in our nation.Register for Generation of Trauma: Addressing Mass Violence in the Community and Clinical Session at https://www.naswnc.org/page/Essentials1.
