Smullens explains: “Like life itself, there is nothing neat about my evidence-based categorizations. They hold a great deal of overlap and are offered for understanding, prevention, and discussion.” This edition also notes both differences and similarities between burnout and depression from a social work perspective. Deeply concerned about what she calls “pathologized human reactions,” Smullens emphasizes that in both burnout and depression reactions are usually understandable and appropriate reactions to life events. (She does discuss, however, when depressive reactions are psychiatric illnesses, requiring more than “the talking cure.”) 1.5 CEUs available Register for Burnout and Self-Care in Social Work: A Guidebook in Mental Health and Related Professions Previous Article Current Changes and Challenges with Advance Directives, Guardianship and Abuse across the Nation Next Article Introduction to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Dissociation Identity Disorder Print 1856 Tags: virtual continuing education webinar chapter Wisconsin Related articles Undoing the Perpetuation of Structural/Systemic Racism: It’s a Public Health Crisis Ethics of Essential-Self Care for Clinicians Professional Development Bullying in Social Context: Promoting Resilience for Insecure Children and Teens Diversity, Equity, and Social Work: Continual Improvement Webinar Borderless Care: Navigating Transnational Caregiving in a Globalized World
