Voting for NASW election ends May 27

Voting for the NASW 2016 National Election ends at 8:30 p.m. EDT on May 27. Candidates’ information, including bios and platform statements, is posted on NASW’s website at socialworkers.org, and also was published in the March issue of NASW News. Members eligible to vote must be in good standing and have a current email address. To request a hard-copy ballot, please call Member Services at 800-742-4089.  Your vote is important to us.

Call to the 2017 Delegate Assembly

The official “Call to the 2017 Delegate Assembly” is posted on the NASW website. This marks the start of the Delegate Assembly (DA) activities, most of which will be conducted online. The timetable for all activities is also posted on the DA website. The Delegate Assembly web pages can be accessed on the NASW site under the “About NASW” tab at socialworkers.org.

The Delegate Assembly is the representative, decision-making body — comprised of 277 delegates — through which NASW members establish program priority goals and develop a collective stance on public and professional policies. The Delegate Assembly meets once every three years. The 2017 Assembly will hold its culminating meeting on Aug. 4, 2017.

Any member intending to propose changes to the Code of Ethics or to the NASW Bylaws (relating only to those articles in the purview of the DA) should email Sue Jashinsky. She will provide the guidelines and format for submitting proposed changes. The proposals will need to be written and submitted in final form and per the guidelines, by June 17, 2016.

Social Workers Vote

The National Association of Social Workers has a tool on its  website that helps people find their candidates and connects them to the agency in their jurisdiction to register to vote. Each state, the District of Columbia and territories have different rules around voter registration. NASW encourages all social workers to register and vote. As the 2016 election approaches, we will be endorsing candidates for election. As a member, you can view our past endorsements at PACE.

NASW News reader survey

The NASW News team would like your feedback about the association’s official newspaper of record. Members should look for an email with a short readership survey in June. We hope you will take the time to let us know what you think.
