Paving the Way for Change
National Association of Social Workers
The National Association of Social Workers was founded 60 years ago in October 1955.
Since launching this year’s celebration during Social Work Month in March 2015, NASW has worked to highlight the Association’s impact over six decades on public policy reform, social service delivery, and social work professional development. Inspiring member testimonials, an organizational timeline, pioneer fundraising, chapter awards programs, video productions, and several new member services have all contributed to our "Paving the Way for Change" campaign.
NASW 60th Anniversary Celebration
The National Association of Social Workers celebrated its 60th Anniversary at a special event at the Hyatt Regency on Capital Hill on October 30, 2015.
NASW also held a series of thoughtful deliberations between chapter and national leaders and staff about the future of the Association. In June 2015, the NASW National Board of Directors voted to begin integrating national and chapter operations to position the Association for long-term viability and greater member relevance. The Modernization Implementation Plan is due to the Board in September.
And on October 23, 2015 in Washington, D.C., social work leaders will convene at the NASW 60th Anniversary Forum to discuss some of the most important opportunities facing the profession in the next decade.
The event will include three morning panel presentations (livestreamed for remote audiences), a luncheon celebrating the 55th anniversary of the NASW Code of Ethics, and afternoon leadership roundtables to help align organizational strategies across the field of social work.
