CE Category: 1 Social Work
LGBTQIA+ older adults are a growing population yet still often invisible in social work services and supports. Because many LGBTQIA+ older adults experience heightened health, social, and economic disparities, targeted interventions, services, and resources can benefit this population. And social workers are well-poised to help. Social workers are uniquely positioned to practice at multiple levels while simultaneously interacting with multiple systems. By understanding key laws and policies impacting LGBTQIA+ older adults, social workers can be better prepared to provide meaningful services and supports for this community. This webinar will provide a brief overview of key laws and policies impacting LGBTQIA+ older adults, particularly in the context of social services / social work. We will also discuss emerging (and long-standing) hot topics that impact social workers serving LGBTQIA+ older adults.
Objectives:
- Identify key laws and policies impacting LGBTQIA+ older adults, particularly in the context of social services/social work.
- Describe hot topics that impact social workers serving LGBTQIA+ older adults.
- Articulate concrete actions to take as a social worker when navigating these laws, policies, and hot topics to provide culturally responsive services for LGBTQIA+ older adults.
